Paxful, a platform for buying and selling bitcoin in Africa, is on the forefront to ensuring that its employees including women are given equal opportunities and are provided with rigorous training and opportunities to develop their skills. Women form a 40% of the total number of Paxful’s employees and the company is more determined to scale up the numbers not only in Africa but also all over the world.
Women across the globe and in Africa are showing great interest in the Blockchain and cryptocurrency ecosystem. Though the crypto world is mostly dominated by men, we see more and more women on the rise to create a space for themselves in this diverse ecosystem. In Binance, half of its employees constitutes of women.
According to the Analytics Insight, between 2012 and 2018, there were 378 cryptocurrency startup ventures, however women contribution to this was just a mere 8%, who were either the founder or a co-founder. Male dominance in the scientific, financial and technology industries is one of the core reasons as to why the cryptocurrency was dominated by men before 2018.
Today more women continue to hold high positions in crypto field and they have contributed tremendously in this world. Women continue to take high positions of leadership in Blockchain and cryptocurrency and their founded projects are one of the most competitive projects.
Here are some of the great women whose involvement has contributed tremendously in Blockchain and cryptocurrency.

· Ojuedeire Doris from Nigeria
Doris a Blockchain enthusiast is the founder of Blockchain African Ladies (BAL), consisting of 3000 females as members. The group focuses on evangelizing Blockchain education and uniting African women. Doris is a unique business advisor and entrepreneur, who is passionate on uniting women from Africa as she strongly believes that Blockchain provides a safe ground for African women’s freedom
· Alakanani Itireleng from Botswana.
Alakanani is the founder of Satoshicentre. Alakanani is a teacher who got to learn about bitcoin in the quest of looking for her son’s donations to fund his treatment. Bitcoin provided a way of receiving the donations and this led her to becoming one of the prominent women in Blockchain ecosystem from her country. She now teaches about Blockchain other than the traditional form of education. Satoshicentre is a Blockchain platform that teaches the utilization of Blockchain to counter Africans problems.
· Monica Singer from South Africa.
Monica is South Africa’s Country Lead, Consensys. She is focused on ushering exemplary change in the financial sector. She was appointed the country’s Lead for Consensys, an international venture production studio that uses Blockchain technology to build and distribute applications on the Ethereum world computer.
· Roselyn Gicira Mwangi from Kenya.
Roselyn is the chairperson of Blockchain Association of Kenya and the head of the Kenyan Women in Blockchain Chapter. Roselyn is very interested in the disruptive Blockchain innovation and has worked to empower innovative tech start-ups in East Africa. She is a certified member of the Kenya Institute of Directors, a non-political professional organization of individual corporate directors and senior managers committed to the professional practice of corporate directorship in Kenya. She has previously worked with the UN for eight years as a Women program representative. Thereafter she went into business as a Safaricom dealer for 10 years opened and operated several money transfer and retail outlets with Safaricom.
· Anne Musau from Kenya
Anne Musau is the founder and CEO at Shahah Solutions Investments Ltd and the Chief Project Officer at World Causecoin, which is a peer-to-peer digital currency focused on financing cause projects across Africa. Ann musau works very closely with Cause projects such as the Financially Fit Africa to ensuring that the less privileged in the society are aided through the World Causecoin. These projects have already been set in Kenya and are bound to spread throughout Africa. Some of the Projects which World Causecoin is focused on is building several maternity and children hospitals across Africa, the Goat Foundation which gives a pair of goat to widows from the reserves, a project that has already began in Kenya, and Food for Africa which aims at providing free agricultural education to farmers to help improve their production and learn value addition.
