- First Meta Distillery set to launch on 14th June on Decentraland
- Participants to receive NFT wearables and PoA protocol token
- No need for digital wallet and users can browse as guests
The first Meta Distillery is up and running, thanks to Angel’s Envy, a Kentucky-based distillery owned by Bacardi Limited. While users can’t exactly drink in the meta distillery, it will provide an opportunity to visit Angel’s Envy and learn tons about whiskey.
The distillery will be holding an event on National Bourbon Day and invites metaverse fans to join in the alcoholic fun. The first meta distillery is built on Decentraland, one of the most popular platforms for metaverse enthusiasts.
Meta Distillery week-long launch party
Angel’s Envy will be holding a week-long launch party for the Meta Distillery running from 14th to 20th June. During this period, fans will participate in a series of challenges to unlock free NFT wearables.
They will also learn to make bourbon and even savor some of Angel’s Envy signature cocktails. Participants can also buy the distillery’s Henderson Cocktail Kit and enjoy the drinks in real life.
Besides the drinks, the distillery will be launching the ‘Toast the Trees’ program, allowing users to plant virtual white oak trees around the distillery. Participants will also receive a Proof of Attendance Protocol token.
Legal requirements still stand
Users will need to meet the minimum age requirements to enter the meta distillery. Users in the US have to be over 21 years, while the minimum age for residents in other countries is 18.
Besides, you won’t need a digital wallet to explore the distillery and you can get in as a guest. However, connecting your wallet will unlock more experiences.
While speaking on the upcoming launch, Angel’s Envy General Manager said it would help meet the demand for visitors who want to tour the distillery. The distillery recently completed its $8.2 million headquarters expansion in the real world. There’s a replica of the headquarters in the metaverse and users will get a virtual tour of the distillery.
Not the first rodeo for alcohol in the metaverse
Although this will mark the first entry of a distillery into the metaverse, there have been prior efforts to make this a reality, Earlier in March, Tequila brand Jose Cuervo announced plans to open a meta distillery on Decentraland. However, this has not yet been actualized.
Also, the distillery isn’t the first to bring alcoholic beverages into the virtual world. Still in March, beer company, Heineken, launched the first virtual lager, Heineken Silver. The drink exists in a virtual brewery on Decentraland.
However, it seems the company wasn’t really serious about Heineken Silver, in a past interview, a company spokesperson commented that the virtual beer was an ironic joke to remind fans that nothing beats the taste of actual beer in the real world.
He added that it was a reminder to brands that seem to be rushing into metaverse projects. Over the last year, several big brands have expressed their interest in the virtual world, including car manufacturers Toyota and Nissan.
