Near Boosts Blockchain Adoption With New Hub in Kenya

  • Near and Sankore join hands and together they have created a new hub in Kenya
  • The primary goal of the partnership is to speed up the projects under Sankore
  • Near supports projects that are over $45 million 

Near Foundation, a swiss non-profit firm, teams up with Sankore from Kenya to establish a blockchain hub in Kenya.

The hub will focus on delivering education, innovations, and talent not only in Kenya but also in the rest of the continent of Africa. 

This partnership’s main goal is to accelerate Sankore’s projects by encouraging talented individuals to participate in workshops that train and offer certification in their field of choice.

Kevin Imani who is the founder of Sankore, and will be the leader of the newly launched hub, opines that such a collaboration could reach out to individuals from every corner of the country and the continent at large.

Kevin opines that the partnership will help nature talents to yet advanced developers to elite blockchain developers.

“We are thrilled to be working with NEAR to educate and nurture talented individuals to become world-class blockchain developers, who will lead the NEAR hub in Kenya. Our dream is to lead the way in blockchain innovations in providing solutions to Africa’s biggest problems. The NEAR Protocol allows tomorrow’s brightest developers to build custom solutions with scalability, security, and transparency. This hub is the next step in turning our shared vision into reality.” says Kevin Imani.

Near can Reach Out to interior communities

Through Sankore, Near is holding various meetings with locals. The rates recorded that younger individuals are acknowledging the importance of technological advancements and are quite eager to learn about the digital currency, blockchain technology, and the new Web3.0.

Through these gatherings, the individuals can connect and share ideas on how to create windows of opportunities in web 3.0 and actualize the new internet.

A while back, Near’s certified developers held a meeting in Nakuru, Kenya, to exploit the various opportunities Web 3.0 offers.

The local developers present during the workshop were encouraged to gain certification in the blockchain and the Near Developer Certification.

The hub has so far gained six students as Certified Developers. 77 university students registered with the Near Certified Developer workshops. Other 7 students had registered with Near Certified Analysts workshops.

Near Foundation CEO, Marieke Flament opines the hub signifies a “unique opportunity to partner with local talent”. 

Sankore has several incubated projects that leverage blockchain 

Projects like Kilimo Shwari that operate under Sankore, use blockchain smart contracts insurance, which helps farmers to get compensation in case they are hit by any calamities such as bad weather and for example the recent attack from the locust invasion.

Sankore has another project that has its focuses on mitigating fraud cases across the continent. Ledja, as the project is called, is at the forefront to combat document simulation.

Ledja has collaborated with universities to leverage the Near protocol to facilitate a document verification process that is not only super secure but also faster than the traditional processes of documentation.

The developers can easily create new applications from NFTs and Defi products, and can also establish new business frameworks for their value-added consumer products.

Near allows, easy transfer of assets as communication between networks is improved. This makes the blockchain faster than Ethereum, which is widely used.

Near Foundation’s main goal is to back and encourage the further embracing of the blockchain network by creating more awareness globally with its focus on Africa. So far, the foundation supports projects that are worth over $45 million. 

Africas Rate of Crypro and Blockchain Continues to Surge

Africa’s crypto adoption rates increased at 1200% rates from 2020 July to 2021 June which was the first test crypto adoption rate worldwide. Research shows that more Africans are willing to buy cryptocurrencies in 2022. 

Africa continues to leverage crypto and blockchain to spur the economies.  For instance, the Central African Republic (CAR), recently legalized Bitcoin to be a legal tender to counteract the deteriorating economy. 

Visa also announced its launching of the latest blockchain innovation studio, which will be using blockchain technology in its payment options. Africa continues to record high rates of adoption.
