Republicans, being the majority in the House of Representatives, are planning on a subcommittee under Financial Services to create a well-regulated environment for crypto.
In November last year, the Republicans gained control of the House of Representatives. However, last week ushered, Kevin McCarthy as the speaker of the House. With that opportunity over their Democrat opposers, the Republicans are on the way to creating crypto regulations to cushion the current state of the crypto market.

According to the new Chair of Financial Services, Partick McHenry, the Democrats have been going in circles as far as crypto and other digital assets are concerned. Despite having a narrow win, the majority now wishes to create a subcommittee dedicated to these issues. McHenry will be heading the panel’s selection.
On the brighter side, McHenry has a passion for financial technology, a significant part of what makes crypto what it is. The subcommittee for “digital assets, financial technology, and inclusion” will have Arkansas Representative James French Hill as the head. The vice chair will be Ohio’s Representative Warren Davidson.
Why are the Republicans choosing this path?
The FTX crash inflicted a significant risk in the momentum the markets were taking. Considering several companies lost millions, went bankrupt, or shed employees, there is a need for more crypto-friendly regulations.

However, the current space has a massive focus on traditional banking and financial services. Likewise, these regulations cannot apply to crypto without stifling its progress in the sector.
The incoming chair also recognizes that with the continuous changes in the finance sector, so is the need for new policies to match. The Financial Services committee will focus on hearings and initiating bills. Furthermore, McHenry will ensure the development of proper guidelines for financial watchdogs while pushing for financial technology for all.
Top choices for other subcommittees
Other subcommittees under McHenry are the following:
- capital markets,
- housing and insurance,
- oversight and investigations,
- national security, illicit finance, and international financial institutions,
- and financial institutions and monetary policy.

Chosen chairs include Ann Wagner, Andy Barr, Bill Huizenga, Davidson, and Blaine Luetkemeyer. Each member is well-versed in their assigned position, placing them at a vantage point in creating a new era. Finally, McHenry hopes to match the expectations of all eyes on him, ensuring an all-rounded sector within the House.
