The crypto brokerage firm Genesis hopes to avoid insolvency as its creditors plan to restructure its lawyers. All the efforts are an effort to keep the company afloat while sorting client needs.
The crypto brokerage company Genesis is looking into solutions to avoid the path FTX and BlockFi are on. A report by Bloomberg confirmed this decision as its creditors planned to restructure its legal team to veer from insolvency.
Clearly, the FTX mold is spreading as BlockFi filed for bankruptcy on Monday, November 28. Some of these issues arise from FTX’s inability to settle its creditors all obligations. As such, Genesis is working to pay all its debts without filing for bankruptcy under Chapter 11.
On its current list of legal representatives are the firms Kirkland & Ellis and Proskauer Rose. However, there was yet to be an official announcement from the firms. Meanwhile, Genesis’s interim chief executive Derar Islim commented that there were negotiations with its most significant lenders and borrowers to solve the issue.
Furthermore, this step will sort out the platform’s liquidity and look into all its clientele needs. Genesis now looks forward to Gemini and the Digital Currency Group for help.
Is Genesis in a better position than FTX?
On the brighter side, DCG, the company that owns Genesis, owes over $500 million to the latter, according to Barry Silbert, DCG’s CEO. Genesis’s parent company injected $140 million to keep the platform afloat.
Notably, FTX also owes over $170 million worth of assets to Genesis from its derivative business. It also underwent significant losses due to Terra’s plunge, leading to a failure in 3AC’s hedge fund.
However, the platform is still in deep issues as it suspended all redemptions and new loans as of November 16. Meanwhile, its spot trading, custody, and derivatives services are operational.
GTenesis is part of an investigation by US financial regulators into company interconnectedness after FTX’s fiasco. Moelis and Co. is an investment firm exploring possible asset preservation pathways. Likewise, Genesis is curating a roadmap with all the above names to recover from its state.
