Instagram plans to launch its own NFT marketplace to allow users to mint and sell their digital collectibles as NFTs on its platform after collaborating with Polygon.
Instagram collaborates with Polygon to announce the launch of its own NFT marketplace. The new Instagram NFT marketplace will allow users to mint and sell their NFTs on the platform.
Currently, the social media platform allows selected users to sell their NFTs via its app. However, the popular app declared that it will soon grant its users’ permission to mint digital tokens.
The Instagram NFT marketplace
Meta, the firm that owns Instagram, announced support for buying and selling Polygon NFTs on Instagram. The firm will roll out a new toolkit to help users navigate the new NFT marketplace.
Instagram announced its collaboration with Polygon. The collaboration allows users to mint NFTs with the minimum of hassle. Users will have an end-to-end toolkit, from creation and showcasing to selling.
Creation of the NFTs will start on the Polygon blockchain ecosystem. Creators will soon make their own digital collectibles on Instagram and sell them to fans. The digital collectibles will feature both on and off Instagram.
Users will easily support their favorite creators by purchasing NFTs on Instagram directly. Meta also seeks to expand on the types of digital collectibles on its platforms. The expansion will include video and additional support for the Solana blockchain and phantom wallet.
The framework also supports the blockchains and wallets that were featured initially on Instagram. OpenSea enriched the metadata that relays information for select collections.
Instagram will feature metadata such as collection names and descriptions.

Minting of NFTs
As Meta continues to uphold the incorporation of third-party wallets in its NFT marketplace, it remains quiet about its own. After rebranding to Meta, the firm insisted on creating a digital wallet for its Metaverse.
Consequently, with the new NFT marketplace, Meta may integrate its own wallet to allow customers to buy and sell NFTs at ease. Instagram today supports third-party wallets such as Coinbase and MetaMask.
Currently, users cannot mint their photos as NFTs on Instagram but after the creation of the marketplace, it seems possible. Once the NFT marketplace is established, minting of photos as NFTs will depend on the user.
The minting process targets photos, videos, GIFs, digital paintings and other digital collectibles on Instagram.
NFT owners will be able to connect their wallets to verify NFT ownership. Users will display their NFTs on the main Instagram feed, within stories or direct messages.
In addition, Instagram users in the US can connect their crypto wallets with their accounts and share NFTs.
Meta’s plan
In spite of the sluggish growth of NFTs in 2022, Meta continues to set the trend in the NFT space. The company seems undeterred by the declining numbers and continues to experiment with the crypto and NFT sectors.
Meta recently disclosed a staggering loss of $3.7 billion.
Nevertheless, CEO Mark Zuckerberg seems determined to turn the tables. Zuckerberg reiterated that the firm will soon bounce back after its recent investments in AI and Instagram. The new investments will unlock both short-term and long-term opportunities for Meta and its users.
