Mysterious Elon Musk-themed hackers attacked South Korean Government run Youtube channels and broadcasted a damning video of Elon Musk and Jack Dorsey in a bid to facilitate a crypto coin scam.

Shocking news as mysterious crypto scam operators hacked multiple South Korean government-run YouTube channels.

The hackers renamed the channel “SpaceX Invest” and linked the concept to Elon Musk.

The attackers claimed to provide investors with an investment strategy by investing in coins related to Elon Musk.

Hackers attack government-run YouTube channels

One hack took place on a channel operated by the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art. Another attack hit a channel operated by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The South Korean government also claimed that the hackers attacked another site. The site promotes South Korea to overseas tourists. The government dubbed the site as Imagine Your Korea.

Imagine Your Korea hosts over 500,000 subscribers. The video streams attract over 500 million views on average.

The ministry stated that certain channel names and profiles were altered. The hackers started to live stream crypto-related videos beginning in the early morning of September 1. The hackers then renamed the channels “SpaceX Invest”.

However, the products or services offered by SpaceX Invest remain unclear. The hackers did not include any links to bogus crypto exchanges.

The attackers neither attempted to promote any specific coins with their broadcasts. However, the hackers appeared to retain the logo of the Korean Government. They also retained the name during the podcasts.

The video featuring musk

The hackers also broadcasted a video featuring an interview with Elon Musk. The video featured Twitter Founder Jack Dorsey and Ark Invest’s Cathie Wood.

Hackers pirated the video and posted it to other channels that they took over. On September 2, the hackers posted the same video showing the details of the coin. The hackers claimed that the coin will absolutely dominate the market.

The attackers added that they named the coins after Elon Musk like Elongate and Dogelon Mars.

Meanwhile, the South Korean ministry remained paralyzed after the attack. The Ministry failed to regain full control of its Imagine Your Korea channel for 48 hours.

South Korean Solution

Apparently, passwords and ID changes made it possible for hackers to hack the Ministry. The hackers deployed manipulating links only on the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art.

The ministry alleged that the hackers stole the login credentials and passwords. Additionally, some of the channels remained offline temporarily after the attack.

The ministry consequently restored the sites back to their normal state. The institution plans to bolster security. The ministry plans to establish a hotline with Google Korea. Google Korea will allow the ministry to respond to similar events.

Crypto scams continue to traverse the crypto world as more scam cases emerge. It suffices to say that crypto firms need stringent measures to deal with such attacks. The stringent measures will aid in addressing crypto scams and malicious content in the crypto world.
