Binance, the highly famed crypto exchange, to aid the South Korean city of Busan set up a digital assets exchange platform in a bid to propel the city into a global digital assets trading hub.
Through a press release, Binance announced signing a memorandum of understanding with the city of Busan in relation to backing the city’s latest development.
Busan, which is currently South Korea’s blockchain hub will receive support from Binance in terms of technology and infrastructure development. The support will cater to the city’s blockchain ecosystem development and to promoting Busan’s Digital Asset Exchange
Binance-Busan collaboration
The authorities projected a creation of an exchange that allows the trading of digital assets. The idea capitalized on the vision of a city-run stock market that in turn aimed at trading certain types of crypto assets such as security tokens.
The City Mayor, Park Heong-Joon stated that the Binance collaboration was crucial. Especially because the agreement would help move the city one step closer to establishing the Digital Assets exchange.
The Busan Digital Assets Exchange aims to showcase an integrated platform for digital assets.
Digital Assets Adoption in South Korea
The former government led by President Moon Jae-in remained adamant about the adoption of crypto. The administration displayed a hardline stance on all things crypto-related. Domestic tokens remained outlawed in all forms within the country.
The current regime redirected the country’s approach on the crypto wave. President Yoon Seok-yul promised a review of the ban. Currently, the largest business group, SK, revealed plans for a new token.
SK plans to launch a token through one of its subsidiaries. If successful, many South Korean industry insiders will follow suit.
The regulation-free status affected all blockchain-related technological developments. However, the tides changed after President Seoul insisted on mass private blockchain adoption.
What to Expect from the Agreement
Busan’s Mayor believes that the city will become a blockchain-specialized city. The blockchain hub will act as a growth engine for the local economy. The city will eventually portray the image of a global digital finance hub.
Binance also pledged to establish a presence in Busan by the end of the year. The move will eventually give the exchange a foothold in the country. Binance will then gain the power to start exploring for an operating license.
Currently, the South Korean market mainly consists of domestic players. Surprisingly, only five exchanges qualify for regulatory permits in the country. Regulatory permits allow exchanges to offer fiat trading.
Binance aims to start supporting blockchain-related research and investments in Busan. The exchange will also begin ordering book-sharing services in collaboration with the city.
Lastly, Binance will provide specialized blockchain education and online resources. Busan’s Blockchain Week, slated for October this year, will kick start the arrangements.
