- Michael Alan Stollery accepted the crypto charges raised against him
- The CEO took part in a crypto fraud scheme that involved TBIS’s ICO
- DoJ stated the ICO collected approximately $21 million
On the 22nd of July 2022, the CEO of Titanium Blockchain Infrastructure Service Inc accepted the crypto charges raised against him.
The CEO, Michael Alan Stollery, took part in a crypto fraud scheme that involved TBIS’s Initial Coin Offering (ICO).
The Department of Justice pointed out that the ICO collected approximately $21 million from both local and foreign investors.
The charges against Michael
In his verdict, Stollery accepted he used parts of his TBIS’s white paper to manipulate investors. He also admitted to inserting testimonials of quack clients on the websites.
His relationships with the Federal Reserve and dozens of well-known companies such as PayPal, Boeing, Verizon and others were also untrue
The CEO used the TBIS platform as a crypto investment platform to manipulate investors with false claims into buying the TBIS’S coin, BARs.
Stollery also failed to register TBIS’s initial coin offering with the Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) even after being coerced to do so.
In May 2018, the SEC filed a complaint against Stollery and Titanium accusing them of disregarding the anti-fraud and registration provisions of federal laws.
EHI, Internetwork and System Management Inc, another company registered under Stollery also faces charges relating to breaking anti-fraud laws.
The Department of Justice claims Stollery used the investments for his personal gain instead of investing as he had promised.
Michael is expected to be sentenced on November 18th, 2022 with probably 20 years imprisonment.
Crypto crimes becoming prominent
Crypto crimes have been on the rise and attracting more stricter regulations.
The DoJ has been on the lookout for such cases. Just last month in a period of three days the department sentenced six defendants in four different cases.
Binance is also under investigation on whether the exchange platform disregarded securities laws in 2017 during its initial coin offering.
In Thailand, the SEC also imposed tight regulations on ICOs. The ICO of crypto projects will require a portal to file for the regulator’s approval. Especially on matters concerning the issuance and listing of tokens in both primary and secondary.
The EU is also fighting against crypto frauds. The political and economic union of European states finalized making the necessary crypto regulation governing its member states in July 2022.
Cases such as North Korea’s attack caught the attention of federal government departments such as the US treasury.
Globally several other regulators are working on tightening the regulations involving ICO.
