Ukraine is now a member of the European Blockchain Partnership (EBP). According to the Ukraine Ministry of Digital Transformation, on June 17th, the country joined the EBP as an observer.
The Ukraine nation aims to expand its interstate blockchain network partnership with other countries. Its main goal is to blend its digital economic space with the European Nations.
Hope to reconstruct Ukraine after the war
Ukraine joins the EBP as the third country outside the European Nation, after Norway and Liechtenstein.
Ukraine has been eyeing the partnership for a while now. In July 2021, Oleskii Zhmerenetsky, Head of Blockchain4Ukraine, together with the CEO of Virtual Assets of Ukraine, Konstantin Yarmolenko, drafted a letter to the president of the European Commission. The letter addressed Ukraine’s desire to be part of the EBP and the EBSI.
The two, who are also the Kyiv Activists and lawmakers joined forces to push for Ukraine to gain full membership in the EBP.
Yarmolenko expressed Ukraine’s need to execute the EBSI test node. Ukraine also strives to navigate through key use cases of cross-border public services through blockchain technology.
The authors of the letter opined that cross-border services gold significantly help to reconstruct Ukraine after its conflict with Russia ends. “EBP will accelerate this recovery, as well as support the further integration of Ukraine and the EU,”
According to Yarmolenko, cryptocurrencies played a significant role during the Russia-Ukraine War. He stated that “Next step is full blockchain integration of Ukraine and the EU based on EBP/EBSI initiatives.
What next after the partnership?
After partnering with EBP on the key blockchain use cases, Ukraine will be gaining its full membership in the European Blockchain Partnership.
Yarmolenko also revealed that Ukraine is looking forward to future blockchain partnerships that will enable Ukrainians to transact cross-border services.
Such services include identity credentials, verification of education credentials, registration of refugee and or asylum, and support.
CEO Yarmolenko opined that Ukraine’s move into joining the EBP will help reinforce its connections with the European Nations.
Zhmerenetsky also stated that EBP will help minimize the credit for higher education and driver’s license for Ukrainian refugees in Europe.
