On 7th June 2022, Qatar Airways announced its first experience in the metaverse. The airline plans to launch NFTs. Through its QVerse, passengers will also be able to buy their tickets for the physical flights.
QVerse, Qatar Airways’s first experience of the metaverse will enable customers to virtually visit. The passengers will also be able to share the premium check-in area at the Hamad International Airport.
The company believes that the metaverse plays a crucial role in creating better human relations. To actualize this, it plans to expand its dynamism in the virtual ecosystem.
The future is in the metaverse
According to the airline, the passengers’ desire is what spurred their move into the metaverse. The passengers’ wish was for immersive content that will enable them to make sound judgments before purchasing a ticket.
Through QVerse, passengers will be able to purchase tickets for their physical flights and choose their preferred seats on the real aircraft.
A company representative from Qatar Airways stated, “ that is why we believe QVerse will change the way passengers make their shopping choices.”
Through the Oculus Quest VR platform, the airways will be able to provide performance, interactions and venues to its QVerse platform.
The company did not fail to mention its long-term plan entry into NFT marketplaces such as Decentraland and The Sandbox.
“We are currently focusing on creating our metaverse rather than investing in Decentraland or Sandbox. But we do not rule out this plan. We continue to explore how we can develop this area and strategically incorporate NFTs into QVerse.”
Qatar Airways leads on blockchain adoption
The carrier is also the world’s first airline to launch a MetaHuman cabin crew, Sama. Sama offers passengers a digital interactive customer experience by engaging them. The MetaHuman will also give the passengers a virtual tour.
The MetaHuman also narrates a script that presents the uniqueness of the airline’s cabin both in the business and economy classes.
Akbar Al Bakar, Chief executive of the Qatar Airways group noted that “with physical boundaries beginning to be challenged by the metaverse on an increasingly larger scale.”
He opined that is exciting to adopt a technology that provides travel lovers with a uniquely immersive experience.
Qatar Airways is also the first airline to leverage the Blockchain Digital Passport in partnership with the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
The U.S Airforce also tops the lead as it filed an application for the SpaceVerse initiative after its entry into the metaverse announcement.
In April 2022 Emirates also unveiled its plans to launch NFTs with the aim of building signature brand experiences in the metaverse.
