Chipotle will now be accepting payments in the form of cryptocurrencies, mainly through the Flexa digital payment platform.
As Chipotle launches its new crypto payments, it will be giving its customers a 10% for every purchase paid through crypto via the Flexa-enabled app.
The Mexican-style fast-food restaurant partnered with Flax to support crypto adoption in the US. Chipotle will be accepting crypto payments in its over 2975 Chipotle restaurants in the US.
Chipotle leverages Flexa-power payments
On Wednesday 1st June 2022, Flexa shared the news of its new partnership with Chipotle through a tweet. Flexa currently supports 90+ cryptocurrencies such as BTC, ETH, and stablecoins pegged to the U.S dollar among others.
Chipotle opines that its partnership with Flexa comes with added advantages. The fast-food restaurants outline that Flexa-powered payments at its restaurants will be simple past and are carbon-negative.
The digital payment platform introduced its Flexa payments on 27th April 2022. Enabling merchants to accept crypto payments whether they receive payments in-store online or in their mobile apps.
Chipotle, which is the latest merchant in the US to accept crypto payments, is now part of several more high-end businesses accepting crypto transactions through Flexa.
Some of the already existing merchants that leverage Flexa include cinema operator Regal Theaters and the largest financial institution in El Salvador, Bancoagricola.
Crypto adoption in the U.S continues to grow
Despite the crypto market plummeting different merchants have shown interest in cryptocurrency especially by accepting crypto payments
In April 2021, Chipotle rewarded its customers with Bitcoins worth $100000 and free burritos. During the giveaway, players could either win Bitcoins worth up to $25000 each or a burrito.
In November 2021, Burger King also had a similar initiative where it partnered with the Robinhood platform and had a giveaway of Dogecoin and ETH after customers purchased their meals.
In February 2022, McDonald’s registered its plans of creating virtual restaurants in the metaverse. The virtual restaurants would feature both virtual and actual goods and a home delivery
